Wichita County ICE Custody Path
ICE custody is an immigration process, not a county-jail sentence and not a TDCJ prison term. A person can be lawfully released from Wichita County Detention Center and immediately transferred to ICE. The WCSO release date remains correct for county custody, while confinement continues under federal immigration authority.
The county record's disposition or destination is therefore critical. If it names ICE, request the transfer authority and use the ICE Online Detainee Locator System. Do not call the county detention center an ICE facility merely because it receives a detainer or hands someone over.
Research did not establish a dedicated ICE detention center in Wichita County. This page follows the system serving the county. It does not invent a local building, address, release desk, or visiting process.
Confirm a Wichita County ICE Transfer
Begin with the county booking when ICE appears after a local arrest. A bond, dismissal, or sentence completion may authorize local release, but an immigration detainer can affect what happens next.
- Search the WCSO Jail Records booking and match the person, charge, cause number, and booking event.
- Obtain the affirmative county release date and time. Do not rely on disappearance from a live roster.
- Read or request the release disposition and receiving agency. “ICE” or an immigration transfer means continued custody may follow.
- Search ICE ODLS by nine-digit A-number and country of birth, or by exact name, country of birth, and optional date of birth.
- Account for exact spelling and hyphenation. Recheck later if the transfer is fresh because information can be delayed or suppressed.
- If the locator does not resolve status, call the ICE Detention Reporting and Information Line at 1-888-351-4024.
The Wichita County release-record search explains how county, state, federal, and immigration results fit together.
Search Wichita County ICE Records
ICE ODLS offers two main searches. The strongest uses the A-number and country of birth. Enter all nine digits, adding leading zeros if needed. The biographical path uses exact first and last name with country of birth and an optional date of birth. Hyphens and spelling must match the record.
| Search route | Needed details | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| A-number | Nine-digit number and country of birth | Leading zeros may be required |
| Biographical | Exact first and last name, country of birth | Name format and hyphenation matter |
| Date refinement | Date of birth when known | Optional and still requires identity checks |
| Phone fallback | Stable identity and custody facts | Disclosure may be limited |
ICE guidance says ODLS can cover people in current ICE custody or released from ICE within the last 60 days. Some information may be withheld or delayed, and minors under 18 are excluded. A missing result is not proof of release.
No image appears because the manifest's ICE capture failed. Substituting a stock image or another agency's screen would blur the custody channel.
No Wichita County ICE Facility
No dedicated local ICE detention site was documented. ICE may take custody after a county release and place the person elsewhere. The correct question is which authority accepted the transfer, not where an assumed Wichita County ICE jail stands.

Wichita County ICE Detainers
An ICE detainer asks a local agency for advance release notice and requests custody for up to 48 hours after the person would otherwise be released under local authority. That period can explain why bond posting or dismissal does not produce an immediate exit.
If ICE assumes custody during that period, the county release event is a handoff. If ICE does not assume custody within the requested 48-hour period, ICE states that the local agency must release the person. The actual WCSO record and agency confirmation establish which path occurred.
A detainer is not a new local criminal sentence. It also does not prove a dedicated immigration facility exists in Wichita County. Ask for the destination and transfer authority instead of inferring status from the hold alone.
Important: Release from WCSO to ICE ends county custody but is not release into the community.
Request Wichita County Transfer Proof
WCSO Records/ID is the Sheriff's primary repository at 2815 Central Freeway East, Wichita Falls, TX 76302. The published phone is 940-766-8170, fax 940-766-8102, and hours are weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Verify details before visiting.
Ask for the existing booking and release records by full name, aliases, date of birth or booking number, and approximate booking date. Include release date and time, disposition or destination, transfer authorization, detainer-related records that are public, bond information, and linked cause number. Request electronic copies and a cost estimate.
Texas Government Code Chapter 552 covers existing agency records, subject to exceptions and other confidentiality laws. An agency does not have to create a new explanation. Ask for segregable public portions if some material must be withheld.
Court records go to the proper clerk, not the generic county request form. A dismissal or bond order supplies legal context but does not prove whether ICE took custody after county processing.
ICE Release and Recent Results
An ODLS result showing a recent ICE release concerns the end of ICE custody. It does not retroactively explain the earlier Wichita County booking, nor does it rule out another authority or a later custody event. Match the ICE result to the same person and preserve the date.
The 60-day recent-release scope is limited. A person released earlier may no longer appear. Data can also be suppressed or delayed. No result can reflect a spelling mismatch, missing leading zero, different name form, exclusion, time limit, or no ICE record.
When status remains unclear, use the Detention Reporting and Information Line. Court or counsel channels may also be needed. Do not fill the gap with a commercial locator that lacks official custody data.
Note: ODLS is a current and limited recent-status tool, not a complete Wichita County archive of immigration releases.
ICE, USMS, and BOP Differences
ICE handles immigration custody. USMS manages federal criminal pretrial detention, and BOP holds designated federal prisoners. A county destination naming one agency should not be searched in another agency's locator merely because all are federal.
If WCSO transferred the person to USMS, follow the federal docket and later BOP after designation. If the destination is ICE, use ODLS. A BOP result of “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody” says nothing decisive about ICE custody.
TDCJ is also separate. Transfer from Wichita County to TDCJ is state prison custody, and a move from James V. Allred Unit to another TDCJ unit remains incarceration. Choose the system shown by the release destination.
Missing Wichita County ICE Results
Recheck the full name, aliases, country of birth, date of birth, and A-number. Confirm whether the person was actually transferred to ICE or merely had a detainer noted. A requested hold can end without ICE taking custody.
Ask WCSO for the receiving agency when the online booking is vague. Then contact ICE through its official channel. Keep the county release record, locator result, and date of each inquiry. Those records distinguish delayed data from an ended custody segment.
Official sources should anchor the answer. A stale news story or commercial page can preserve an old claim without showing present custody, release, or transfer.
Document a Wichita ICE Release
Preserve each source with the date checked. The WCSO release record establishes when county custody ended and should name the destination. The ODLS result addresses the ICE segment within its published scope. Direct ICE confirmation can fill a gap when the online result is delayed or unavailable.
Do not merge the dates. County release may occur before ICE intake, and ICE release may occur later. A court order in the criminal case also answers a different question from an immigration custody result.
If the identity remains uncertain, use the A-number, country of birth, exact name, and date of birth as permitted. Stable identifiers matter because a spelling difference can produce no match. Keep the source record rather than relying on a screen that may later change.
Texas IVSS-Counties may send a county booking, release, court, or transfer notice for participating Wichita County systems. It is not the ICE locator and may omit people after local custody ends. Use the notice to seek the WCSO record, then move to ODLS for the immigration segment.
A detainer noted in a county file does not prove ICE accepted custody. The release destination and direct agency record must show the handoff. If ICE did not take the person, the requested hold and actual release remain separate events.
ODLS information may be suppressed for security or other reasons, so absence should be handled as an unresolved status. The Detention Reporting and Information Line is the official fallback. Provide stable identifiers and the county transfer facts, while recognizing that disclosure may be limited.
If the county file shows only a request for notice, do not assume a transfer occurred. A detainer asks for action; the release disposition records what WCSO actually did. This distinction matters when the requested 48-hour period expires without ICE accepting custody.
For a person released from ICE within the locator's stated recent period, preserve the result and date. Then verify whether another authority took custody. The end of immigration detention, like the end of county detention, answers only one segment of a longer record.
